Black History is Canadian History.
A Black People’s History of Canada (BPHC) is a project funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage and Dalhousie University. Its purpose is to conduct new research into our nation’s rich African Canadian history and heritage, and to fill the gap in Black Canadian history education. Partnering with African Canadian groups and government agencies responsible for education, the BPHC will help create new elementary and secondary school curricula in English and French for teaching Black history in every Canadian province and territory.
This project empowers educators, learners, and all Canadians through ground-breaking research in African Canadian history.
This project is led by the award-winning historian and author Dr. Afua Cooper.
